About Sugato: Sugato Bhaduri has many prestigious awards and is one of the few mandolin maestros in Indian Classical music. He began with vocal music as a young boy and later the western mandolin became his chosen instrument.
Its resonant tone evokes shades of the Sitar, Veena and Sarod. Sugato’s performances of ragas (melodies) have a crystal clear richness of sound, rhythmic intricacy and depth of emotion.
Indian classical music is traditionally known as Gandharva Veda, which has been described as the melody from which all other melodies take their source, the music of nature. There are melodies – or Ragas – for different times of the day reflecting the different laws of nature operating during the 24 hour period. Listening to these melodies, especially when it is a live performance, is said to neutralise stress and fatigue, revitalise mind and body and also to create an influence of peace and harmony in the surroundings.
